Should I leave printer "ON"?

$

I've just installed a Pro 2100 printer and wonder if it should be left switched off when not in use.  I'm coming from an iPF 6100 (14 years old) where the instructions were to leave the power on so the printer could agitate the inks periodically - about weekly I think.

Is this necessary today for the new Pro 2100?? I can't see anything in the User Manual to informn me.

Thanks for any help.

slightly greyed background even when printing blank page in MF733Cdw

As our "starter" toner approached 0% we noticed that our pages starting having greyish backgrounds as if the printer was trying to print a slightly off-white color as the background of a page.  You can see a thin white border around the edges of the page as if the intended print size was just slightly smaller than the Letter page.

Thinking this was due to the toner getting low, we replaced it, but the problem continues.

I've tried:

- Replacing all the toner. (B/W + Color)

- Updating printer software on the printer.

- Updating drivers on both Mac and Windows PCs.

- Using the copier feature of the printer (removing PCs from the equaton).

- Running the printer through some of its offered cleaning cycles.

Nothing seems to resolve the problem.  Any suggestions on what to look at next?

toner density changes in print driver settings not being applied - solved

I was having issues with the print driver not applying the toner density settings via the print driver, even though they were working fine when I set them on the printer itself.

I realized in the print settings, in addition to changing the toner density settings, I also needed to change the "Toner Density Adjustment" setting from "Printer default" to "On".

MF733Cdw Streaks/Lines on Left and Right

My MF733Cdw recently developed streaks or lines (or they recently became dark enough for me to notice) when printing.  I tried Maintenance > Clean Fixing Assembly (both), Clean ITB, and Clean Feeder multiple times, all without success.  Each of the cartridges has minimal printing use since I last replaced them, but I still tried rocking them to distribute toner evenly.  After each cleaning, the streaks/lines are unchanged (not lighter, not darker -- just very consistent).  The unit is approximtely two years old.  Any insight into how to remedy this is appreciated.

PostScript PPD for imageClass MF743Cdw

Hello Forum Support / Moderators,

I specifically purchased an imageClass MF743Cdw because it had native PostScript support.  Before I purchased it in late November, I was fairly certain that when I went to the driver downloads section, I had an option to just download a PPD.  I am not finding that option now - perhaps I am mistakenly remembering.

I fully understand that Canon has a UFR II binary driver that is available for certain processors and Linux versions, but I am specifically interested in printing directly in PostScript mode, without running a Canon-supplied binary driver on the system.  The printer clearly has that capability.

How can I get a PPD for this printer as I have historically done with other manufacturers' business-grade printers?

Thank you.

I recently purchased an apple M1 MacBook Pro and my Canon Maxify MB5120 Scanner Utility is not working. When I try to use the scan utility, I get this error message: "The applicaiton "Canon IJScanner16s" can't be opened.

My mac is running Big Sur Version 11.0. I tried downloading the latest scanner utility from Canon for Big Sur and I get the same result.

The printing seems to be working fine. Just can't scan. Can you help?

Many thanks!

Laser Waterslide Decals - color laser printer - try Manual Tray, LTR paper, Coated 3 settings

I am using a MF743 color laser printer to print out waterslide decals.   After wasting a bunch of decal sheets I found that when I used the following paper size and paper type settings I could print out fantastic looking waterslide decals where the print was  bonded to the decal surface.   I printed the decals using the manual tray, letter paper size, and "Coated 3"  paper type selection (56-73 lb bond paper weight).   I found that the printed image was not bonded as tightly as what I get when I used the same decal paper with a Xerox type printer.  If you scraped hard enough you could remove the "ink".  But, I always clear coat my finished hobby project so that will reslove that deficiency.   I hope this helps the hobby folks out there trying to find an alternative to inkjet printed decals.    Laserjet printed decals are so much easier to work with!

Amazon Alexa cannot find my Canon MF634cdw printer

my canon printer is on the approved list of printers, but none of my echo show 8 or echo dot 2nd gen or alexa app can discover it.

I updated the printer to most recent firmware v8.01 released November 2020, and IPP is enabled, all devices are on same network, but for some reason it cannot be discovered.

I reached our to alexa support but they were a waste of time, they kept having me try the Canon inkjet skill which does not work for my laser printer , they for some reason do not have a Canon laser printer skill, but my printer 100% is listed on the approved list of discoverable printers

I tried the Canon inkjet skill, but itrequires registration from the printer setup, and it does not let me register since its not in the system

The printer has to go to IJ Cloud Printing Center setup, which only the canon inkjet printer has, no such thing on the Canon imageclass printers.

I am guessing amazon mistakenly thought the laser printers were compatible and added them erroneously to the list

Has anyone able to get this to work with Alexa?

MB2110 Two Sided Printing

I want to make identical copies of documents where the single page original is on both sides of the paper. I want the copy to be on both sides of the copy.  All it will seemingy do is take 2 one-sided originals and print them on both sides of a single page.  Don't a lot of users want to copy two-sided opiginals to two-sided copies?

MF733Cdw damaged

I printed a 2-page color PDF file today, and the MF733Cdw never printed it, instead displaying "Correcting, please wait" continously, and spending a lot of toner, but never printing it.

It was stuck for almost an hour in the "Correcting, please wait" stage, making mechanical noises. I would have noticed it sooner had I been in the room when it was churning, but I simply printed the document from my phone over WiFi, expecting to read it later.

The printer was working so hard that I started smelling an odor. Not smoke, but just the smell of overworked electronics.

I powered off the printer, unplugged it, and looked at the toner cartridges, which were at 100%, having been replaced a month ago.

I noticed a piece of clear flexible plastic had fallen underneath the black cartridge (but I don't know whether it was originally from the black cartridge):

SCAN0001.JPG

It was covered in toner (the photo above is after it was thoroughly cleaned).

I cleaned all 4 of the cartridges' rollers with microfiber, rotating and cleaning them until they did not display any more toner.

But in the end, there is still a large streak on every page:

Consumables

I looked at each toner cartridge, and I cannot notice a scratch or something else which could explain that streak. I hope that the printer itself wasn't damaged.

I looked at each toner cartridge looking for a piece of flexible plastic which might have fallen out of one of them, but which is still present in the others, but I did not notice anything. The flexible plastic feels flimsy, like it wouldn't stick very easily to anything. I wonder what its function is. Is it a part of the "wiper" which removes extra toner?

I hope that replacing the toner cartridges will get rid of this streak. I'm surprised that a piece of soft plastic would fall out of Canon parts like that, and cause a lot of toner to be wasted, and that the "Correcting, please wait" process could be allowed to run continously for around an hour, perhaps because it is trying to autocorrect an uncorrectable hardware failure.

My printer is just under the 3-year warranty, but I am not able to ship or transport it, so unless it can be fixed at my site, or by replacing the toner cartridges, or by my following instructions, I'm afraid I'll have to scrap it.

MF232w Direct Connection Wifi doesn't seem to have WPS button

Hi Canon team,

I am using the mf232w through a direct connection. Windows registers it as such, and directs me to press the wps button on my printer. I do not see a soft or hard button that triggers the wps mode. Do you have any suggestions for how I can get the printer to connect? The wifi-direct protocol, according to wikipedia mandates wps mode. How can I trigger that after activating direct connection?

Trouble Installing Ubuntu Driver

$

0

I have just installed the latest Ubuntu Linux distribution on my computer. I did so, because I was unable to install the drivers for the scanner component of my Canon PIXMA TR8520 office printer, scanner, copier and fax machine desktop combo device on my computer when I was running Zorin OS; a Ubuntu-based Linux operating system. At the time that I had Zorin OS installed, I posted my concern in this Canon Community Support forum; to see if anyone could help me to install the scanner driver for my multifunction Canon PIXMA TR8520 office device on my computer; and I was told that Canon unfortunatelly did not offer any support for installing the Linux drivers that it provides onto Zorin OS regardless of the fact that Zorin OS is a Ubuntu based Linux distribution. In fact, they only offer support for installing these drivers onto either Ubuntu Linux or Fedora Linux. So, I installed Ubuntu Linux in place of Zorin OS, using the partition that Zorin OS occupied in my system.

Then, I went to the support page for my Canon multifunction device and downloaded the manual for installing the ScanGear MP driver for the scanner component of my device on Ubuntu Linux. That manual is called "ScanGear MP for Linux (Operation guide)" and is available at the following URLs as a compressed file with the .TAR.GZ file extension:

Then, I proceeded to follow the instructions that the manual provided as closely as possible, for installing this driver onto my computer. I started by downloading the Debian package of the driver; which is the scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb.tar.gz archive file; from the following URLs:

I downloaded the archived file to my Downloads folders in Ubuntu. Then, continuing to follow the instructions to install this printer's driver for its scanner component, I openned a Linux terminal. I made sure that my Canon Printer and Scanner device was turned off and connected it to my laptop computer using a USB wire and the USB port. Then, I got to my Downloads folder, to where I had downloaded the driver for installation, by typing the following into the Linux terminal, then pressing the Enter (or Return) key:

  • cd Downloads

Then, I unarchived the scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb.tar.gz by typing the following command, then pressing Enter again:

Then, I openned the the scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb archive by typing the following command into the terminal, then pressing Enter again:

  • cd scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb

Then, I finished installing the scan driver by typing the following command, pressing Enter, then typing in the same password that I used to login to my Ubuntu account at the prompt that followed:

  • sudo ./install.sh

Once this driver was installed, I tested it to see if it was working by attempting to scan an image. I began by turning on my Canon PIXMA TR9520 multifunction printer and scanner device, then typing the following command in the terminal, followed by a press of the Enter key, in order to open Scan Gear MP:

  • scangearmp2

Then, in the "Select Scanner" window panel and prompt that opened up, a message appeared saying that no scanner was found connected to my device. The exact message of this alert was "No scanners detected." To attempt to see if I could get this driver to work even though it did not seem to want to do that, I clicked on the button that said "Update Scanner List." Then, another window openned that said "Searching for scanners." Then, a message popped-up on top of my screen saying "Scan Gear is ready." Then, another warning came up in a different window that said "Cannot find available scanners. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status then try again."

So, I double checked to make sure that my Canon PIXMA TR8520 printer and scanner device was on and properly connect to my laptop using the USB cable and the USB port; and it was. Then, I unplugged the USB cord from my USB drive, plugged it back in and tried clicking the the button called "Update Scanner List" again, yet to no avail. Once again, another window openned that said "Searching for scanners." Then, a message popped-up on top of my screen saying "Scan Gear is ready." Then, another warning came up in a different window that said "Cannot find available scanners. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status then try again."

So, I tried uninstalling the scanner driver and attempting to install it using the second method outlined in the manual for installing this driver onto the Ubuntu Linux Operating System. To begin this process, I closed out of Scan Gear by clicking the X button on the right-hand corner of its window. Then, I exitted the directories that I had gotten into by entering the following command into the terminal, followed by a press of the Enter key, to go back down the directory tree:

  • cd ..

Then, I entered the following command again and pressed Enter again:

  • cd ..

Then, I proceeded to enter the following commands in the terminal to uninstall the Scan Gear driver, press the Enter key once more, and then type-in my password at the prompt the followed:

  • sudo scangearmp2-pkgconfig.sh --uninstall

Once it was done uninstalling, I attempted to install Scan Gear again; only to do so by specifying the package this time around. So, I turned off my Canon PIXMA 8520 device, while leaving the USB cable connecting it to my computer. Then, I typed the following command in the terminal, followed by a press of the Enter key:

  • cd Downloads/scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb/packages

This got me to the packages directory inside of the scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb folder, within my Downloads folder from the terminal. Then, I typed the following command at the terminal to finish this process of installing this driver for a 64 bit computer, followed by typing my password at the prompt once again:

  • sudo dpkg -iG scangearmp2_3.50-1_amd64.deb

Then, I tried testing my installation once again, to see if it worked this time. I did so by typing the following command in the Linux termina, in order to open Scan Gear MP, followed by pressing the Enter key:

    • scangearmp2

Then, in the Select Scanner window panel and prompt that opened up again, a message appeared once more saying that no scanner was found connected to my device. The exact message of this alert was "No scanners detected" again. To attempt to see if I could get this driver to work another time, even though it had just failed to do so once more, I clicked on the button that said "Update Scanner List" again. Then, another window openned that said "Searching for scanners" once again. Then, a message popped-up on top of my screen saying "Scan Gear is ready" again. Then, once again, another warning came up in a different window that said "Cannot find available scanners. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status then try again."

So, I double checked to make sure that my Canon PIXMA TR8520 printer and scanner device was on and properly connect to my laptop using the USB cable and the USB port once again; and, again, it was. Then, I unplugged the USB cord from my USB drive, once again, plugged it back in again. Then, I tried clicking the the button called "Update Scanner List" again, yet to no avail.

So, installing the driver for my Canon PIXMA TR8520 in my official Ubuntu distribution of the Linux Operating System failed using both installation methods outlined in the manual for "ScanGear MP installation for Linux," like it did when I previously tried to install this driver onto Zorin OS. Could anyone help me to fix this problem so that I can get my Canon PIXMA TR8520 multifunction device's scanner component to work with my Ubuntu Linux Operating System?

I would really appreciate it!

Sincerely,

Nataly Mota

Since about 4 days ago a CPU that had no issue with printing is now producing NG(#0853) in the print log

Windows 10 (build 19401) should be the most current version

Network printing to an iR 2535 Standard TCP/IP port 9100

Have tried both UFR II drivers the Generic UFR II and the Generic Plus UFR II

I have other CPU's of identical OS and drivers that print with no issue

I have run down all the basic steps remove the printer, delete drivers, reinstall drivers, reinstall the printer, print direct to the printer, and various driver options with no success.

Any other ideas for what is causing this issue?

Driver and Scan Utility Version Discrepancies

Printer: MF726cdw

OS: Mac Os 11.1

So I'm having a devil of a time verifying whether the version of both the printer driver and the MF Scan Utility is the current one.  When I just downloaded and installed the newest version of each from MF726 home page (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/myportal/us/home/support/details/printers/color-laser/mf726cdw/color-imageclass-mf726cdw) the following are the version #s given for each piece of softward:

Printer driver:                    V10.11.6

Scan driver and utilities:    V2.15.6

Yet when I check the information for each, I get different version #s:

Printer driver (Opened Printer Queue, click on "About Canon MF 720C Series"):      Version 16 (587)

MF Scan Utility:                                                                                                            Version 1.10.6 (1.10.6)

Why the discrepancy?  The printer driver in particular is curious becaue it would seem to be a straightforward process without potential for deviation.

MF Toolbox won't detect printer

Printer: MF726cdw

OS: Mac Os 11.1

I was able to use the Scan Utility up until the November driver update.  I just did the December update hoping this would cure the problem, but all I'm getting is an error message saying "No available scanner found. Follow the instructions in the User's Guide for the scanner driver to add the scanners you are using."  I read the following article and discovered I needed to register my scanner:

https://oip.manual.canon/USRM2-6463-zz-DR-enUV/contents/dmu-inst-add-tb.html

According to this, all I  have to do is click on "Network Scanner Settings," click on "+" and the name of my printer should show up under Bonjour.  It doesn't.  What's the problem? I suppose I could register it with the IP address, but that REALLY shouldn't be necessary.

(Btw, I tried removing and adding the printer in the Mac OS System Preferences, and the MF726 shows up in the Bonjour box, I'm able to add the printer, and the PRINTER works just fine.  It's just the scanner that seems to have problems.)

Does anyone have an answer for this?
